Description

The owners fell in love with this original 1950’s holiday home and could visualise it’s transformation whilst keeping the Bach flavour.  It’s location made it a beneficial lifestyle choice being so close to the hub of Mount Maunganui, and the owners could see themselves returning to it summer after summer.

The house was lifted, re-piled and replaced it it’s original position.  Internally, it was gutted and straightening of several walls was required due to the age of the house.  An upper level was built to provide additional living space and amenities required for modern family living.  A significant portion was re-framed, re-clad and re-roofed, the floors patched with recycled timber, half the joinery was re-located and additional recycled timber and joinery was installed to stay true to the original sense of this home.

The end result is a collaborative effort between the owners and builder, as most decisions could not be made until building had commenced.  In staying true to the original construction and design of this home, the classic Kiwi originality has been preserved.
